There is nothing new or secret about how I
get traffic to my websites. There is no "amazing new traffic
system". It does not cost me anything. There is no pay per click
advertising. And it does not require a lot of maintenance once I have set
it up. It is all that simple. It is just based on how the web works. It is
based on what links are used to be. What they are originally invented for.
Links and People. Thatīs all...!
These basic things have never changed. I do
not say SEO is bad, but focusing too much on it has blinded our eyes. The
problem is, too much webmasters have stoped using these simple, basic and
all natural but effective linking methods. I must be honest to you. I have
made the same mistake. By hiding away my links in the long run I had
reduced the number of visitors to my pages, in the hope to get thousands
of visitors some day later. But guess what? They never came. Personally I
now have rather 300 or 500 real visitors every day in addition to the
standard search engine traffic, than just dreams of hords to come one day
in the distinct future. And these people buy, subscribe, surf through my
sites, and in the end - all naturally - leave. Many of them come back,
maybe they have even bookmarked or recommended my page, because I did not
scare them away!
You can take this article as you like. If
you are a SEO "expert" or "Guru", please do not email
me. I do not want to hear from you. SEO - at least in itīs exagerated
form - does not work in the long run, except for a tiny percentage of
special websites. If it does, it only offers temporary benefits at the
best. I have been out there and have done exactly the same. As a matter of
fact, even if I manage to get to the top of the search engine results
pages, after investing enormous amounts of time and / or money, NOBODY can
guarantee I will stay there. It was working 10 or even 5 years back. Yes,
I agree. But today the search engines, especially Google, Yahoo and MSN
have become too smart for such games. Even if you follow the latest
"tricks" be sure: theyīll catch you. One or two algorithm
updates sooner or later you will be trapped. Vanished. Gone. It is not
worth all the efforts. Only honest work, this is pages with unique, useful
and well written content as well as a honest, all natural linking
structure will be successfull in the long run. And this is because there
is no tricking, you are only doing exactly what search engines want you to
do. Creating useful, relevant content pages for human visitors!
A dating site, that I was once running,
gathered - after some very long and hard SEO work - a number 3 rank in
Google for the term "free dating". Bingo! Then from one day to
another, the traffic stopped. Google had changed itīs algorithms in the
famous FLORIDA Update. My site was left behind on page 56 of the results.
It simply is no good business sense to invest lots of time or money into
results, over which neither you nor any SEO company has full control.
Today I have hundreds of visible, natural
links on other sites, pointing to my site. Unless Google is in a position
to shut down the complete internet, there is nothing they can do or change
that will stop my traffic comeing from these links. To me, this makes a
lot more sense and is much more profitable. Investing time (not
necessarily money) into the content of my pages and real natural link
building I have received more visitors - and more important a constant
flow of visitors - in the long run, than with much SEO efforts with
results out of control and mostly with a short term benefit only. This is
a much better investment of my time.
All of you webmasters reading this article
I would like to tell that I am presently spending a lot of time working
with webmasters and web users to stop this stinking linking nonsense. See.
I re-discovered something very simple and which is very effective and
works. It is a benefit to all of my sites, gaining up with constant
profits. It is a benefit to internet users as well. It is a benefit to
other webmasters I exchange honest links with and even to those I am
linking to, simply for the purpose of recommending their quality site or
content. It is a benefit even to the search engines, because I stopped
fooling them.
Some of you will know me. I have written
e-books and articles dedicated for both groups of people, webmasters and
surfers. And I have a little community of both types, growing daily.
Pretty soon these web users will be aware of your hidden links (Sorry! I
mean IF you are hiding them). And webmastes are becoming more and more
aware of it. Webmasters you may want to exchange links with. Guess what?
They will leave you alone! They will turn away from you, deleting any
links they have already placed to your site. If you hide your links away,
you are on a dangerous track to nowhere.
Now my friend, it is up to you, the choice
is yours. You can link for traffic, or you can place links for "maybe
some day in the future page ranking" that you CAN NOT control.
The advice of mine simple. I recommend you
invest into a well thought linking program in order to set up your links
directory properly and receive active exchanging links with webmasters who
are showing, not hiding, their links directory in return. Make sure your
link is not hidden as invisible or tiny text or made invisible to search
engines by some java redirects or other fancy, but useless stuff. Do NOT
exchange links with them! There are sufficiant honest webmasters out there
and their number is growing. They are looking for exchanging links with
you. Just go and find them.
