Everybody wants to have his or her website to be displayed on the top
of the search results if a user types in an appropriate search within a
search engine´s search box. Everybody wants to be on top of the URL
(Universal Resource Locator) or SERP (Search Engine Result Pages) for
the desired top keywords for his business. But how do you achieve
getting there? How can you manage your website to be chosen for top
rankings and top results within the SERPs? Well mainly this is up to the
search engine bots or robots or spiders or crawlers going over your web
site repeatedly and noticing any additions or other changes in it, then
hopefully deciding to reindex your website.
To get your webiste reindexed is most of the time a good thing for
getting up in the SERPs time after time. It means that the little search
engine spiders go over your site and notice any changes that you have
done in it. Generally, they are looking for major changes, such as new
pages, deleted pages and most important, new, fresh and unique, well
written and useful content. Also major rearrangements of your site and
brand new pages are being recognized.
When adding new pages to your website continiously, on a more or less
regular basis there is a good program available called "Google
Sitemaps" which can help creating Google optimized Sitemaps for
your entire web. This program is the ideal tool at least when it comes
to reindexing the sitemap of your site. Once the sitemap got indexed,
the bots will very soon follow all the links from the sitemap to the
other pages of your site, usually indexing all of them. Currently only a
beta program is being tested by Goolge, but it could release a new trend
in regards to site indexing and reindexing.
Creating and laying out Google Sitemaps you put on the list various
details about the structure and content of your website. The good thing
is, if you make it right, you can get Google to notice and download the
changes as shown on your sitemap on a regular basis. This is constantly
if the pages are changing continiously or on a daily, weekly or monthly
basis. Every time Google is reindexing your sites, Google Bot is
learning about the usual frequency of updates and changes that are made
to your web pages. You should consider the huge potential benefits
provided by the Google Sitemap Program and have a good look into the
details on how to create a sitemap for your site properly.
Submitting your site to as many search engines as possible, you will
first receive little, later on more and more up to massive site exposure
as it climbs up in the search engine rankings. The most known is Google
PageRank, but also Yahoo, MSN and others are using their own pagerank
procedure to varify the ranking of a page within the SERP (Search Engine
Result Pages). It is not all done just by submitting your site to search
engines, but submission to search engines is the first, most effective
and fastest way to submit your site before submitting to directories and
other traffic sources.
When you have done major changes to your site, you should get it
reindexed by resubmitting your site to the search engines. You can do so
up to two times a month, or every month or every second month. But do
not resubmit more often in order to avoid getting a penalty for search
engine spamming. If you have new or updated content on your web site,
the search engine crawlers may pass by more often automatically, as they
learn your site is updating content more frequently, they will revisit
and recrawl your site more often by themselves. So there is no need to
resubmit your site again from your end every view days.
In order to get maximum site exposure, it is recommendable to post
blog entries about your new site content with links pointing to the new
sites every time you are publishing important new or updated content.
But do not just submit a copy of this content to your blog, in order not
to get mislead as blog spammer. You can submit your blog or blogposts to
search engines monthly. Moreover you can send a blog ping to major blog
search engines on a more or less frequent basis, up to once a day. Also
submit your blog site to directories. This is a work which most of the
time you have to do once only. Meanwhile there are also special blog
directories in the internet where you can submit your blog pages to. You
will receive increased inbound links to your blog and website which will
not only bring you additional site visitors coming from these
directories, but will also help to increase your page ranking and rise
you up in the order of SERP when it comes to search for your target
keywords in the major search engines.
It is always useful to increase the number of incoming links pointing
to your site homepage or any other page of your website. Use every legal
method to increase links pointing to your site from other sites, best
having relevant or related content, business, products or services to
your site. Ask and try to convince them to place a link to your site on
their sites. A simple textlink will do, and in most instances is more
helpful and rated higher in importance by search engine robots as well
as human visitors than a banner link.
You can arrange to receive these links by offering a reciprocal link
exchange (they place a link to your site, you place a link to their
site) or joining link exchanbe services or communities that are very
useful to help you to find sites that are both related to your site and
willing to accept link exchanges as well. Do not place too many links
too fast, better do it more slowly and add not more than 2 links a day,
in order to avoid beeing abused for link spamming by the search engines.
Rightfully they suspect a page for link spamming that receives one
thousand new links a day right from the start and disregard these links
as worthless or may even penalize your complete website for spamming
methods. As a rule of thumb, in whatever you do in regards to search
engine optimisation (SEO) try to do it as naturally as possible.
When trading or exchanging links be selective. Do not accept link
exchanges to sites that have no relevancy to your content and sites that
you suspect for use of spamming methods. It is better not to have links
coming from or pointing to such sites, in order not to spoil your search
engine rankings. These sites may more likely harm than help your
rankings. Especially Google likes links from sites with relevant content
much more than links from sites with non-relevant content. Personally,
this is difficult to understand, as there is the question why news sites
for example should only link to other news sites. In my view, this is
unnatural, but in Google´s view it is natural. This is one of the rare
points where many webmasters cannot follow or understand Google´s point
of view, but let´s follow Goggle´s approach in this, because they are
ruling today´s search engine results and it is important to receive
traffic fromt their SERPs.
