#7 - Starting Your Business: Finding a Niche

Before we start talking about domain name registration, web hosting and website design you need to make a "plan" first.

This means, before you begin with building your internet home business you need to identify the market or niche to go into.

Hint: you can dive into multiple niches and markets later on if you like, but we highly recommend you pick one only for the beginning and stick with it for at least one or two years. The big advantage is that you get not distracted too much this way.

Focus on one niche first, you can diversify later! You will not be able to give full power to building your business otherwise.

You should select your first niche or market based on these criteria:

• You like the topic of the niche and you can identify yourself with it.
  
  
• You already know something about this niche, or at least you are willing to learn about it.
  
  
• There is a demand for the niche.
  
  
• There are plenty of ready-to-buy customers in that niche (some niches have high demand, but people are not willing to pay for products).
  
  
• Competition is not too high in regards to the size and volume of this particular market.
  
  
• Make sure there are affiliate products available that you can sell to the niche. (Remember, you want to create PROFITS !)
  
  
• We highly recommend that you do some keyword research before you really make your decision.
  
  

Hint: Today there should be affiliate products for almost everything imaginable, but you need to go for the profitable ones.

Moreover you should do some research about your prospective niches in the big search engines such as Google, Yahoo and MSN Live Search in order to learn more about the niche as well as your potential customers and competitors.

Think about some niches and topics you would like to go into. Then, research your market before you start. Give it a day or two of thought. Relax. Take a walk with your dog if you like to. Very often, more good ideas come up this way. Give it some time to settle.

You should be able to come up with a ton of good ideas this way.
